

Treasured husband and father
John J. MacArthur peacefully passed on Feb. 1, 2014. He was 78.
For nearly 36 years, John was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Beth. They brought each other years of joy, happiness and fun. Their family was a central core to their long and loving marriage and they enjoyed travel and boating. Beth and John resided in South Plainfield, New Jersey for many years, before moving to Florida in 2003.
John was cherished by daughter Lorraine Gostyla and her husband, Wayne, and daughter Teresa Schrul, and her husband, Bill, all of Mountainside. He was the caring grandfather of Noelle and Hope Gostyla and Steven and Allison Schrul. John’s daughters meant the world to him.
John enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1955 where he performed federal duty until he entered the United States Air Force as Airman First Class in 1958 where he served until 1962.
John spent much of his career at the vanguard of computer technology, working for many years for Chase Manhatten Bank, developing software and networks for Lady Leslie, Inc. in Clinton, N.J., and as co-owner of Beth’s Boutique in Pompano Beach, Fla.
John will always be remembered for his unflappable sense of humor, generosity of spirit and big heart. He brought a world of laughter and love to those around him. John will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives he touched so deeply.
John is survived by his brother, Edward MacArthur and his wife, Joyce, sisters Dorothy Russ, Alice Zentz, Katherine Przemelewski, Patricia Ortiz and her husband, Steven, his brother-in-law Jeffrey Buccellato and his wife, Maria, brother-in-law Peter Parello and his wife Carmille Agana, sister-in-law Nancy Parello, all of New Jersey, sister-in-law Leslie Parello of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 200 North Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army. A private burial service will be held Wednesday.
