Eclipsed on its path at the speed of a blazing comet, an accelerated sunset; a life once characterized by energy, vivacity and exuberance has now been absorbed by a silent thud, where the curtains of death have cast their shadows and rule with unchallenged sovereignty upon subservient victims. It is a state where life has just become permanent!
“We cannot Lord thy purpose see, but all is well that that’s done by thee.”
Kevin Kurt Omar Smith was the 2nd of 3 children born to Sydney & Sonia Smith on November 1st 1976 in Mandeville, Jamaica.
He attended the Mandeville Early Childhood School and later the Mandeville All Age School, where at the age of 11years he sat the Common Entrance Examination and was successful, and thereafter attended the Manchester High School. As a child Kevin’s passion was to become a scientist, however, like any typical teenager with transient obsessions, that passion subsequently eroded. At the age of 12, Kevin was baptized and received the Holy Ghost during a crusade in Mandeville Jamaica in 1988.
On May 11th 1991 Kevin and his family migrated to the United States and resided in Manassas, Virginia. During this period in Virginia he attended the Stonewall Jackson Senior High School.
After approximately eighteen months, the family re-located to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Kevin continued his high school education at Boyd Anderson High where he graduated in 1994. His scholastic excellence and competences were spectacular at this and all previous schools for which he received certificates and trophies. Kevin attended the Broward Community College where he pursued a course of studies leading to an Associate Degree in Accounting. He continued his education in the field of Business Studies, majoring in Accounting at Florida Atlantic University, and in May 2002 he graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration Degree.
While attending school Kevin worked part-time at the Coral Springs Auto Mall conducting deliveries, and later at Andrx Pharmaceutical as the staff accountant. During his tenure at Andrx , Kevin read for the CPA Examinations and obtained licensure to practice accounting in the State of Virginia in 2005. After leaving Andrx, Kevin was offered a position at PriceWaterHouseCoopers and continued to pursue another CPA license for the State of Florida which was conferred on him in April of 2009. Kevin had taken the initiative to embark on a course of studies leading to a Master’s Degree at Nova Southeastern University in the next few months. He excelled in his field with PWC and was promoted through the ranks to become a Senior Manager in July of this year.
Kevin was poised for greatness. He was an achiever. He understood from his formative years, that a sound and secure future was highly dependent on a relationship with God, and a good education. He was selfless! He gave generously of his time, his spirit, his love and resources. His sense of gratitude was enviable. As his parents reminisce on his personality, they recalled that every certification and trophy he received for examinations passed he would carry to their home. When asked by his parents “why don’t you carry them and decorate your own wall?” What he replied in the next few lines would create a lump in your throat, and leave you gasping for breath! You made this happen. You are responsible for my success. I could not have achieved this without you!
He was a source of support for his family and gave unstintingly of his resource for family well-being. Nothing was too costly or too good for his family as long as he could afford it. His mother recalled that after she lost her job over a year ago, Kevin gave her an allowance to replace what she had lost at the start of each month, and was never late.
As a family they were good together; as children they found community among themselves. His brother confessed that Kevin was the goal oriented member of the pact that would inspire them to achieve. Kevin he said is responsible for what he has attained. He is a pilot, and often whenever he is out on long trips, Kevin, unsolicited would go to his house and remain there for his family to ensure that everything was in order; homework completed, bedtime schedule adhered to; behavior kept in check, no infractions. He took them as his own kids, and they loved him back after-all he was a kind uncle. If notice the children crying today, it is not necessarily because they see others cry, it is not a hoax, it is not to get adult attention, it is for real!
Kevin was fun loving, jovial, kind, a people person and if the quote is true: - “never met a stranger.” Kevin loved to see all in his presence happy and not to say the least eating.
Death has expended its final authority and there is nothing more that it can do. Yet, with all of its powers and deep shadows it cannot digest him, because this is not the end of a man. But someday soon, when the globe is set ablaze by its creator: when the sun is veiled in blackness and the moon blooms red; someday soon, when the stars begin to fall from their cosmic orbits and all the celestial bodies begin to spin out of control. Someday soon, when the seas eructate the dead out of the belly of the oceans, and the rocks begin to herald out a clarion cry saying hide us from him and from him that sits on the throne and from the terror of his wrath. He will cross over Jordan when the saints afield check-in or, if he rejected the savior, is asked for a reason, what then?
Kevin has touched the lives of all who were honored to have known. He is survived by his father; mother, brother, sister, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and lots of friends.
“A million times we missed you – a million times we’ve cried. If love could have saved you – you never would have died.”
