I know that this is many years after Ray’s passing, but I found this obituary along with some really incredible pictures of the family. To this day, I think of Ray often he was one of the kindest people I have ever met he would call me out of the blue and talk to me for hours, he was easy to love. I’ve said this before, but if it weren’t for Ray and Gene I doubt that I would’ve survived my childhood. They were our older brothers always entertaining. They were so funny I think. Ray shared a quality that was also in my dad and in me. It was the ability to be compassionate, and he was indeed a very compassionate man when I was with the family early on Roz Bill, Ray and Gene, it was the closest to home I ever felt some days when I am  reminiscing I think about every nook and cranny of that house, which I really loved, including the basement where we would play and laugh. Your family was one of the only families that really cared for us after my father’s death and I’m sure I could speak for each of us, Leslie, Beth, and David, and myself to say you helped us get through a very difficult time. A time that was no doubt very difficult for you as well. It saddens me that Ray went so young I can only imagine how difficult it’s been for Linda my sweet 2nd cousins and also for Gene and Margie.Being a twin is such a unique thing. I am still grieving the loss of my dad, even though it was so many decades ago, but it also what contributed to me being a person with a lot of heart being exposed to grief that early in life changes you some. Sometimes I believe some of the changes were for the best.

Well, my darling has been gone 8 years. I wish I could say it was easier but it has not. How can it ? he missed the birth of three of his grandchildren. He hasn’t seen them grown-up although I do hope he is watching and guiding them from above. He was the best husband, the absolute best father and the best friend. To the Van Praag family.
 I was very saddened to hear about Ray’s passing. I know it’s been about 7 years, but I lost contact with Ray and Gene close to 52 years ago. Ray and I were roommates at Southampton in 1964. We were together for  2 years before I transferred. We use to go fishing at Robert Mose and have 1 or 2 on Thursday nights before driving out to Montauk Point(Dumb). Drive up to Riverhead to get all you could eat fried clams at HoJo. There are so many fond memories. One of my favorites is Ray teaching me judo, flipping me, Ray 5’6” 120 & me 6’1” 175, Great memories, RIP, Steve Heller.
