

William Jay (Bill) DeVoe, 76, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away on March 19, 2026 after a long battle with cancer. Born on February 25, 1950 in Queens, NY to William and Muriel DeVoe. He grew up in Hicksville, NY and was the oldest of 6 children, graduating from New York Tech with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Bill was a US Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War; receiving several honors including Purple Heart, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, two Air Medals, and an Army Commendation Medal. He went on to have a distinguished career with the Garden City Police Department, retiring as Deputy Commissioner after 23 years of service.
Outside of his career, Bill was an avid cyclist, liked boating, and enjoyed skiing at Copper Mountain in Colorado. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and socializing with friends. He was fun, generous and seemingly never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by many.
Bill is survived by his children Brittany Butler (Bryan), and Jason DeVoe (Brittany), whom he shared with his former wife, Marilyn DeVoe; his grandchildren, Brayden and Brynn Butler and Riley, Ella, and Callan DeVoe; his siblings Kevin DeVoe (Nancy), Patrice Fitzsimmons, Brian DeVoe, Dennis DeVoe, and Denise Hanrahan; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on March 25, 2026 from 12-2pm at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 W. Copans Road Pompano Beach, FL 33064.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in Bill’s memory.
Bill will be forever remembered for his big heart and his generosity.
