Zoraida Vasquez, of the Bronx, New York and most recently of Pompano Beach, Florida passed away in her home on August 31, 2010. Zoraida, or more affectionately known as Zoe, Zoey or Zori was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on January 15, 1944 to Margarita Ortiz and Delores Berrios. She was the youngest of five siblings that included brothers Jose Berrios, Jesus Berrios, and sisters Gladys Colorado and Raquel Colon.
She is preceded in death by her husband Carlos Vasquez in 1967 and has shared the past 39 years with her companion Joseph Henry Thys. She was a loving mother to her three sons, Carlos Richard Vasquez, William Charles Vasquez and Matthew Joseph Thys. Zoe shared a special bond with her two “daughters”, Leslie Vasquez and Kelly Thys, as well as, welcoming her new daughter-in-law Han Vasquez. Her pride and joy were her six grandchildren, Charles, Jolissa, Julian, Ava, Elizabeth, and Hong Yu. Zoe was loved by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, her compais and the entire Thys and Vasquez Families. Zoe was a strong, passionate, independent, and loving woman. She was loyal and always there if you needed something. She “adopted” many children and siblings over the years and there are many that would say they are better people for having known her. She was always a source of advice and encouragement (or if nothing else would tell it like it was). Zoe was always “in charge” and never compromised who she was and what she believed. She will be greatly missed and will live on through all those that had the pleasure of knowing her while she was with us.
On families request, since this is a celebration of Mrs. Vasquez's life please wear brightly colored clothing, and try to stay away from black.
Arrangements under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Pompano Beach, FL.
