Allen was born March 3, 1955, to the late William Olen Hicks and Julia Irene (Wakefield) Hicks.
His father passed when Allen was just 12 and he had to step up and be a father figure to his five younger siblings while his mother worked to make ends meet. Times were hard but six strong men with a strong familial bond emerged from their circumstances.
Allen attended Haleyville High School and then spent his earlier years working in the orange groves in Clermont, FL before moving his family to Hamilton in 1993. He then owned his own construction company, Futuristic Farms, and built greenhouses all over the United States. Some of the most noteworthy builds were the 4 original greenhouses at Mississippi State University and a breathtaking glass greenhouse at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN. The greenhouse builds took him as far away as Costa Rica. Throughout the years, the company was made up of Allen’s brothers, nephews, children and friends where they all continued to build their solidarity while on the road.
He was a hardworking, selfless man whose door was open to anyone who needed a hand up. He was an unwavering father and grandfather. He was loyal, patient and steadfast. He was the definition of a patriarch, and his absence will be forever felt by all those who knew and loved him.
Remembered by his significant other, Jamie Weaver, the mother of his children, Delilah Carter, his three children, Tiffany Hicks, Stephanie Hicks and Christopher (Candice) Hicks, his grandchildren, Ariel (Ryan) Schrimisher, Destiny (Aaron) Lowman, Ashtin (Ethan) Beets, Alyssa Carroll, Kaleb Carroll, Nate Hicks, Kamy Hicks, Henley Hicks and Jonah Hicks, and his five brothers, Ronnie (Carol) Hicks, Mike (Elaine) Hicks, Lee (Debbie) Hicks, Roger (Shelia) Hicks and Junior Poston and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his nephews, Joshua Hicks and Daniel Hicks.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
