Carolyn Joyce Waldron Hicks, age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Sunshine Nursing Home in Pontotoc. She was born on July 8, 1944, to the late Jimbo Waldron and Rosie Waldron Murray. Carolyn loved her husband, Ernest, her church, First United Pentecostal in Sommerville, TN, her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Before her eyesight failed her, she was known for her beautiful quilts and always made sure she had a baby quilt for all the new babies in the family. She loved gardening and canning fresh vegetables and going to the local auctions. She left her influence on everyone she met.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 to 2:00 P.M., and the funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Leroy Delaney officiating. A private family graveside will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the Hicks family.
She leaves behind her husband of 68 years, Ernest Hicks, her sisters, Pam Mizell (Melvin) of Lucedale, MS and Cindy Murray Collums (Steve) of Pontotoc, MS, one brother, Bobby Waldron. As well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was blessed with a special nephew and niece, Justin Collums and Haley-Rose Collums Craig who will always remember her as their Nanny.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Patsy Waldron Burk, her brothers, Roger Waldron, Randy Waldron, W.T. Waldron, Elmer Waldron and Jake Waldron.
Pallbearers will be Steve Collums, Justin Collums, Garrett Craig, Melvin Mizell, Jeremy Graham and Jacob Isbell.
The family would also like to recognize the staff of Sunshine for the care and compassion that was given her and for making it her home away from home.
