Dorothy Mae Zachary Steele, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Baptist Desoto in Southaven, MS. She was born September 10, 1931 to Newton Ellis Zachary and Helen Annie Mae Walls Zachary. She married James Huntley Steele on March 15, 1952 and they enjoyed 66 years together. Dorothy was retired from Baptist Hospital where she was a RN in Pediatrics. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, MS. Dorothy enjoyed reading, gardening and growing flowers.
Services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Rev. Mike Ramage officiating; burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, James Huntley Steele of Hernando, MS; a daughter, Charlotte Hampton (John) of Southaven, MS; and two sons, James Huntley Steele, Jr. (Linda) of Olive Branch, MS, John Allen Steele (Diana) of Hernando, MS; a sister, Martha Owen of Potts Camp, MS; two brothers, Everette Zachary of Ripley, TN and Cecil Zachary of Southaven, MS; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Reba Anderson and Syble Zachary and two brothers, Malcolm Dwight Zachary and Boyd Zachary.
Pallbearers will be Raymond “Junior” Owen, Jimmy Zachary, Joseph Zachary, Tim Zachary, Brett Wester, Joey Steele, Kyle Steele and Chris Stamson.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
