

James Shelton “Jaybird” Caples, age 83, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at his residence in the Ingomar Community. He was born to Bill and Banice Caples on April 24, 1929. He was long time member of Hurricane Baptist Church. He was retired from the Mississippi State Highway Department.
Services will be at 2 PM Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Bobby Caples, Rev. Philip Brock and Dr. Terry Cutrer officiating; burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife: Eula Mae Caples, one son: Ricky Caples (Sherry) of Thaxton, MS; two daughters: Jennifer Sappington (Bob) of New Albany, MS and Linda Foster (Dennis) of Ecru, MS; one step-son: Jerry Coleman of New Albany, MS; his grandchildren: Grant Caples, Chantelle Isbell (Tim), Randy Sappington (Katie), Lindsey Jones (Matthew) and Jamie Foster; step-grandchildren: Jeff Coleman (Jennifer), Michael Coleman (Dinah) and Lynn Collins (Jason); great-grandchildren: Gabrielle and Jacob Isbell, Levi Jones and Miles Sappington; nine step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Billy Caples (Camille) of Verona, MS and Rev. Bobby Caples (Diann) of Pontotoc, MS; one sister-in-law: Dorothy Caples of Hurricane.
He was preceded in death by his parents: one brother: Elwood Caples, his first wife of 50 years: Velma Willard Caples, and one great-grandchild: David Jones.
Pallbearers will be: Roger Heard, Phil Robbins, Phil Warren, Graden Hooker, Jeff Coleman and Kenyan Caples.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Saturday and from 12 to 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
