Jimmie Louise Russell, age 86, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born November 2, 1924 in Pontotoc County to Chester and Lois Bass. She married William Kermit Russell on April 3, 1943. Soon after he joined the military then traveled extensively with five children for twenty-two years. She was a devoted wife, excellent mother and homemaker and a great cook. When they returned “home” to the Valley Grove Community in 1990, she attended Valley Grove Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Eastern Star Greenville Chapter #189 of Greenville, Texas.
Services will be at 11 AM Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Valley Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Quarrells officiating; burial will follow in the Valley Grove Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons: James Russell and wife Doris of Saltillo, MS, Tom Russell and wife Sunnett of Thaxton, MS and Bill Russell and wife Ann of Tupelo, MS; one daughter: Doris Williams and husband David of Greenville, TX; three sisters: Patty Burks and husband Billy, Martha Stewart and husband Don of Tupelo, MS and Jane Coggins of Memphis, TN; two brothers: Bobby Bass and wife Janice of Tupelo, MS and Billy Bass and wife Margaret of Memphis, TN; two sisters-in-law: Sadie Bass and Mary Ruth Bass both of Tupelo,MS; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son: Mike Russell; one son-in-law: Wayne Coggins; one sister: Gertie Russell and husband Holland; three brothers: Lonzo Bass, Paul Bass and Thomas Bass and wife Moree.
Pallbearers will be her nephews: Paul Bass, Jr., Bubba Bass, Mark Stewart, Kelly Stewart, Danny Bass and Greg Burks. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Buddy Russell, Bobby Glen Bass, Steve Bass, Patrick Simpson and Terry Coggins.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM Thursday at Valley Grove Baptist Church.
