Lynda Tutor, 83, was called home to her eternal reward by her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2026, after an extended illness at Pontotoc Health and Rehab Center. She was born on November 30, 1942, in the Robbs community of Pontotoc County to the late George Wesley Sprayberry and Amy Brown Sprayberry. Early in her schooling, she developed a passion for nursing and would read various novels and books with nursing as a theme, many of which her father brought her from the Pontotoc County Library until she was able to obtain them herself. Very early, she was drawn to ministering to others in her family, community, and church. After graduating from Pontotoc High School in 1959 and taking classes at Itawamba Junior College for a year, she was accepted into the Nursing School at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. Once she graduated from Nursing school, she began work as a registered nurse at the Pontotoc Community Hospital in 1963. On September 6, 1964, she married John Allen Tutor in her parents' home and shared 41 years of memories until his death on September 24, 2005. In 1975, she left Pontotoc Community Hospital to become the director of nursing at the North Mississippi regional center in Oxford, MS, and ultimately retired from this position in 1999. Lynda was a devoted member of West Heights Baptist Church, where she served in various ministries throughout the years, but her longest service was as the Sunday school teacher for a class of young women whom she truly loved and wanted to see become strong, mature Christian women. For her family, she was a selflessly dedicated wife, mother, and especially grandmother. Lynda truly put into practice the two greatest commandments stated but Jesus Christ in Matthew 22: 37-40.
Survivors include three sons, John Anthony Tutor, Andy Tutor & wife Christy (who Lynda viewed as her special God-gifted daughter), and Joshua Allen Tutor, all of Pontotoc. Two brothers: James Elzie Sprayberry (Mary) of Bay Springs, MS and Quay Sprayberry of Randolph, MS. A sister-in-law, Betty Tutor of St. Louis, MO. And two grandsons, A.J. Tutor (Alexis) and Jack Tutor, all of Pontotoc. As well as several Nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother-in-law E.G. Tutor, and his wife Trudy of Greenville, MS; her brother-in-law Gerald Tutor of St. Louis, MO; and her sister-in-law Gwinda Sprayberry (wife of Quay).
Pallbearers will be A.J. Tutor, Jack Tutor, Jeff Sprayberry, Wesley Sprayberry, Rob Sprayberry, and Tyler Reed.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 7th, at West Heights Baptist Church in Pontotoc, MS, from 5 pm to 8 pm. And on Wednesday, from 11 until service time.
Services will begin on Wednesday, April 8th, at 1 pm at West Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the Tutor family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to West Heights Baptist Church.
