
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday October 25, 2010 at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Poplarville for Mr. Harlon Stewart Smith, 89, of Poplarville, Mississippi who died Thursday October 21, 2010 at his residence. Brother Ed King, Brother Grover Glenn, and Brother Harry Davis will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Poplarville, Mississippi he was born October 23, 1920 to Sam G. and Inez Stewart Smith. He was a retired sales clerk with Southern Sales in Poplarville; a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church; a United States Army WWII veteran Prisoner of War; and also held memberships in the V.F.W. and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Betty “Jean” Bridgers-Smith of Poplarville, Mississippi; one son, Richard Harlon “Dicky” Smith of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; one daughter, Susan Rheanette Hodge of Poplarville, Mississippi; one brother, Harold Smith and his wife Erlene of Poplarville, Mississippi; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Annette Smith-Davis, Julie Elizabeth Parrish, Christopher Stanley Hodge, and Tiffany Ann Hodge.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Bain.
Pallbearers will be Brant Smith, Barry Smith, Roger Davis, J.B. Hodge, Mark Bridgers, and Christopher Hodge.
Visitation will be Sunday October 24, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home, Poplarville and on Monday one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the Pearl River Baptist Association, the American Cancer Society, or the veteran’s organization of one’s choice.
