

She graduated from Delhi Tech as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later served as a sergeant of Corrections in Orange County, New York. Her commitment to her work was evident in the respect and admiration she earned from her colleagues and community. A devoted member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, and the sewing guild. Karen's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was also a huge fan of the Mississippi Lions All-State Band, a testament to her love for music and community spirit.
Karen found joy in baking cakes, a skill she shared with her loved ones, and had a deep affection for her cats, Slim, Mosey and her favorite Evie, who were cherished companions. Karen will be remembered for her warmth, dedication, and the joy she brought to those around her.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Simmons and sister, Diana Ebert.
Left to forever cherish Karen's memory, her loving husband, Enos W. Van Amburgh, III; mother, Ruth Simmons; one daughter, Jennifer Bigelow of Virginia; two sisters, Cathy Gaithright, of South Carolina and Elaine Swantak of New York and one grandchild, Robbie.
Family and friends are invited to attend Karen's Memorial Mass at Saint Joseph Catholic Church,12 Bilbo Hill Drive, Poplarville, Mississippi on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am.
