Lt. Col. Oscar Charles Dauenhauer Jr., Ph.D.

Oscar Charles “Chuck” Dauenhauer, Jr. was born on December 1, 1931 to Amelia Wilty Dauenhauer and Oscar Charles Dauenhauer, Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute before joining the United States Air Force in 1952. In 1956, Chuck graduated from the Air Force Pilot Training School at Lubbock, Texas and served on active duty for twenty consecutive years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the Strategic Air Command, completed four tours of duty, flew in 56 combat missions, and received two air medals for his service in the Vietnam War. In 1955, Chuck married Alice Anne Davis Dauenhauer and settled in Poplarville, MS with their children, Anne Elizabeth, David Elliott, and Carolyn Jane in 1972. Chuck graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Ph.D. in adult education in 1980 and worked at Pearl River Community College as an academic counselor.

Chuck was an active member of Poplarville First United Methodist Church, where he helped establish the PFUMC Braille Center. After the death of his wife Anne, Chuck married his wife Eleanor Brantley Dickerson Dauenhauer and relocated to Jackson, MS where he has lived the last twelve years. During that time he was an active member of Madison United Methodist Church.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, wife Anne, son David Dauenhauer, and brother Steven Dauenhauer. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, daughters Anne McLaughlin and Carolyn Seal, son-in-laws Larry McLaughlin and Stephen Seal, daughter-in-law Mary K. Dauenhauer Perez, grandchildren Rachel Seal Guy, Jared Dauenhauer, Stephanie Seal Walters, Brenden Dauenhauer, and Elizabeth McLaughlin, and seven great grandchildren, along with Eleanor’s children Stan Dickerson, Scott Dickerson (Bridget), Steve Dickerson, Ron Dickerson, and Laurie Dickerson Jones (Matt), ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Services will be private.
