Robert Sidney Stewart departed this life into God’s presence on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the age of 75. Robert was born in Poplarville, Mississippi to Claude M. and Mendie Gipson Stewart on Sunday, March 26, 1950. Robert was a lifelong resident of Poplarville. He graduated from Poplarville High School in 1968 and continued his education at Pearl River Community College. After his time at PRCC, he went on to earn a master’s degree from Mississippi State University. After spending much time in Starkville working toward his education, Robert returned to Poplarville and began his career with the Mississippi Forestry Commission, eventually becoming the County Forester. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was a man of great character and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude M. Stewart and Mendie Gipson Stewart; his wife, Deborah Lowe Stewart and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Stewart.
Left to forever cherish his memory are his brother, Don Stewart and step-children, Bethany (John) Green, Nicholas Johnson and Jared (Christy) Johnson, along with 13 step-grandchildren and 8 step- great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at White Funeral Home of Poplarville from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Funeral services, officiated by Reverend Roger Miller, will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Caney Baptist Church (13 Luther Saucier Road, Lumberton, Mississippi, 39455) at 10:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Caney Baptist Church Cemetery with Mike Barrett, Casey Sones, Matthew Hutchins, Joel Stewart, Landon Johnson and C.J. Johnson serving as pallbearers and Ben Smith and Curtis Powell assisting as honorary pallbearers.
