Sylvia A. Stewart

Sylvia A. Stewart passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Poplarville, MS. She was born in Redding, CA and had been a longtime resident of Poplarville where she was employed more than 28 years with Pearl River County in the Tax Assessor’s office. Sylvia was a woman of faith and a member of Derby Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper Cunnington and Catherine Garnsey Cunnington; sisters, Joan Webb, and Shirley Morgan; and brother, Ron Cunnington. Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband of 64 years, Bobby Stewart of Poplarville; a daughter, Catherine Shows (Dale) of Vancleave, MS, three sons, Dewey Stewart (Sonya) of Gonzales, LA, and Gordon Stewart (Robin), and David Stewart (Michelle), both of Carriere, MS; a sister, Mary Davis (Eddie) of Anderson, CA; a brother, Keith Cunnington (Mary Ann) of Cottonwood, CA; three grandchildren, Ashley Joshlin (Steven) of Eugene, OR, Aaron Stewart (Jenna) of Carriere, MS, and Jared Stewart (Gabrielle) of Poplarville; four great-granddaughters, Violet Joshlin, Aeris Stewart, Ainsley Stewart, and Ellie Stewart; and sisters-in-law, Lloy Cunnington of Placerville, CA, and Joyce Grisham of Lumberton, MS.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Derby Baptist Church where family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until service time. Reverend Larry Head and Reverend Breaux Tageant will officiate and burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Poplarville assisted by Aaron Stewart, Jared Stewart, Jack Stewart, Grant Grisham, Kelly Mitchell, and Austin Slade as pallbearers.
