Predeceased by husband Walter, brother Arthur and sister Martha; Alma leaves behind children; Peter and Barbara (Heather); brother Walter (Anja) and sister Friedel in Germany; nieces and nephews; son-in-law David; sister in law Sybille; and niece Hannelore (Peter) and many friends around Port Alberni and Germany.
Alma arrived in Port Alberni in 1956 from Germany as a new bride and promptly became a member of the First Baptist Church in the original church building on lower Redford. She was sociable and outgoing and made friends wherever she went. Alma had many cats and dogs and generally had a soft spot for animals. She enjoyed feeding apples to the deer, carrots to the rabbits, nectar to the hummingbirds and in later years lavished love and affection on her chickens – taking the time to even dig up worms for them in the garden. She loved to cook and bake, especially for others. Many a doctor, dentist and business person received a home baked cake from her. She enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables, but one of her most noted gardens was the terraced rock garden in the front of the house which she filled with flowers.
A Celebration of Alma’s Life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from the Chapel of Memories with Pastor Bill Cottrill officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alma’s memory to the First Baptist Church, 6211 Cherry Creek Rd, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 8S9.
