Connie Young passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 13, 2010 in Port Alberni at the age of 64 years.
Predeceased by parents Norman and Helen Matheson, Connie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Barry; children Jacquie (Tyler) and Kelly (Dave); grandchildren Brooke, Kylie, Michael, Jordan, Hayley, Kayden, Billy, Bryden, Cameron and Noah; great grandson Grayson; brother Raymond (Elva), nephew and niece Greg and Rochelle as well as other extended family members.
While family and friends were always a priority, Connie had a passion for working with children and youth. Connie spent 30 years opening her heart and her home to youth in the community as a foster caregiver. Connie's dream was that every child who stayed in her home was empowered with an experience that remained with them throughout their lives. Many of Connie’s most productive one-on-one sessions with kids happened at the kitchen table where Connie filled her spare time with her other passion crafting. Hours upon hours were spent with her partner Gail creating new designs for the annual craft fair season. Many of their decorations have become regular fixtures in Alberni Valley homes at Christmas time.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, February 19th, 2010 from the Chapel of Memories, 4005 – 6th Ave, with Rollie Nystrom officiating. Tea to follow at the United Church Hall, 3747 Church St. Condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.chapelofmemories.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Connie’s memory to the Kidney Foundation, 200-4940 Canada Way, Burnaby BC V5G 4K6 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1400- 522 University Ave., Toronto, On., M5G 2R5.
