D'Arcy was born at Grace Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, BC and passed away on June 5, 2025 at Ty Watson House in Port Alberni, BC. He spent his formative years in Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a B.Ed. in History and Psychology. After moving to Port Alberni in 1975, he began his 30 years career in teaching and counselling. His steady, joyful and generous presence will be profoundly missed by his students and colleagues; many of whom became life-long friends
Not only did D'Arcy love every aspect of teaching, he also found joy in playing, coaching and watching sports. He enjoyed fishing, working outside in the gardens, attending plays and concerts, and travelling. He was always planning ways to make others happy that included elaborate family Christmases, dinner parties, and parties in general.
Those who knew D'Arcy will remember him for his broad infectious smile and his ability to make people laugh. Throughout the eighteen years he battled heroically against his cancer, he made it his mission to take laughter with him whether in a chemotherapy lab or a hospital ward.
D'Arcy is survived by Elaine, his wife of 51 years; siblings, Scott, Lesley and Sydney; 13 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews and a vast family of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First United Church at 3747 Church Street in Port Alberni on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Ty Watson House or the West Coast General Hospital.
