Doreen Gweneth Dame

Mom was born in St. Boniface Manitoba in 1928 . They then lived between Winnipeg and Argyle where they lived on a farm. Life was very hard in those times. The family moved west to Duncan in 1947 where at the age of nineteen she met and married our dad Sam. They proceeded to have six children together and lived in Duncan until, in the mid eighties they moved to port Alberni. They were together there until Dad’s passing in 2005. Mom lived independently in her own house until 2020 when, after suffering a stroke, she went to live at Echo Village Care Home where she resided until her passing.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Jack and Freda Popplestone, her three brothers and a sister, her beloved daughter Cathy and granddaughter Angela.

She leaves to mourn, sons Gordon (Gail), Dave (Bonnie), daughters Karen (Larry), Susan (Guy), Brenda (Jim), as well as her remaining sister Barb Hartl and many grandchildren, numbering 18 grandchildren, 32 greats and one great great granddaughter. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Echo Village for their exemplary care of mom while she was there and for their kindness and compassion during her final days and after her passing. We will be celebrating her life with an informal tea in May.
