Mar 7, 1918 – February 2, 2012
One of the old pioneer families, Doug Stone passed away in Port Alberni after a courageous battle with Alzheimer.
Doug was born in Cardiff, Wales and came to Port Alberni with his parents Douglas and Gwladys Stone at the age of two and a half. His father and his Uncle Percy, started the tow boat business, “Stone Brothers” and Doug worked there until he retired in 1975.
Doug is predeceased by his parents, his sister Ruby Josephine Green, brother-in-law Art Green and a niece, aunts, uncles and cousins in Wales and England.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Marie Louise, daughters Faye Beyer (Peter) and Judy Rieder (Bob); son Doug Stone (Mirriam); grandchildren: Kathy Kalugin (Joe), Peter Beyer (Nicole), Melissa Von Harrach (Leonhard), Eric Rieder (Jen) and Malaika Stone; great grandchildren: Joseph and Sarah Kalugin, Rebecca, Tyson and Joshua Beyer and Felix and Caspar Von Harrach as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Doug was a very private quiet man. He loved being at his hand built cabin on Sproat Lake. He was a machinist by trade and was always tinkering. He also loved to read.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Echo Village who went above and beyond in the dignity and care they have shown to Doug. Also, thank you to Dr. Sutcliffe, we are so thankfull. Love you all. To the afternoon shift of February 2nd, thank you for your support, it meant a great deal.
There will be no service as per Doug’s wishes. Cremation has taken place. Be good to one another and take a nice walk in the woods. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca.
