Edith Lenora Marangoni (Nonie) was born on December 26, 1927 in Glace Bay Nova Scotia. She grew up, went to school in Glace Bay, and lived happily surrounded by friends and family. She met a handsome young man (Mr. Robert MacLean) and after a short engagement, they married and had a son (Douglas). In 1949, the young family left Nova Scotia in search of a better life. Arriving in Ucluelet in November of the same year, they quickly settled in what was then a very isolated west coast fishing and logging village. Lenora, husband Robert and their young son Douglas were accepted into the community and quickly called it home. They soon added a daughter (Susan) and then another son (Allan).
With the passing of her husband Robert, she began working in the Post Office in 1964 and continued to do so for nearly 30 years, the last several years as Post Master. She was dearly loved by her co-workers, a devoted, hardworking person, and always had a smile on her face.
She remarried long time resident of Ucluelet, Lorne White in 1974, and became a mother to his daughter Myrna, who was still a young child.
Lenora loved to travel and be with her family and friends. Lenora travelled to many places; some highlights are her trips to, Alaska, Mexico, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, France and many US States, including one of her favorites, Reno, Nevada. She loved traveling home to Nova Scotia and spoke often of her adventures. She was an active member of Sunshine Club, a group of wonderful people she loved to be with, and played cards with them every Wednesday in Forest Glen. The highlight of Lenora’s week was being able to spend her Fridays with friends at their social luncheons. Lenora loved to attend the church apple pie making and bake sale event. She was an active member of the Holy Family Church and a very devoted Catholic. Lenora was blessed in her later years with the friendship of a special care person, Jennifer Agustin. Lenora was able to live comfortably in her family home for many years, surrounded by family and friends
We will miss you Nonie.
