

Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of Memories Funeral Directors, Port Alberni, BC. Wintersgill, George Bernard passed away peacefully after several struggling years with Kidney and Heart disease on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in Port Alberni at the age of 71
Predeceased by his father Bernard (1992), George is survived by his loving wife of 45 yrs, Anne; children - Ken(Corinna), Georgina “Sheila”, and Tina; mother - Mary; brothers - Edward (Maralyn), Randi “Dennis” (Donalie), John, and Lee (Wendy) ; sisters - Elaine Dallow-Schafer (Ed) , Esther (Bill) Custer, Alma (Henry) Rousseau, and Dorothy Rodgers; grandchildren - Katherine, Emily, Katie, Stuart, Paige and Noah; great grandchild Tara Rhode as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
George arrived in Port Alberni a few days after the Tsunami of 1964 looking for work. After working for Somass Mill, and the stick depot in M&B Cameron Division, he worked at the dryland sort until his retirement in 1998. George was a very active member of the community taking on many different roles and being involved in many different activities. From playing softball for several years, to fishing, volunteering at the Arrowsmith Ski Hill, mushroom picking, becoming a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and after retirement volunteering and grounds keeping at the Church, and singing and playing the same guitar he bought in 1960 for the shut ins at various rest homes around town. Throughout his life his guitar was never far from his side. He enjoyed and was busy doing it all. During the late 70’s he and Anne built a floating cabin in Barclay Sound and spent the next 17 years fishing and visiting the cabin as often as they could.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church. Inurnment to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
