It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Haldis “Betty” Walen at the age of 89. Born in Svolvær, Norway, she moved to Port Alberni in 1959, where she happily resided for the remainder of her life.
Predeceased by her husband, Olav, in 2011, Betty is lovingly remembered by her daughter Irene (Kevin), and her grandchildren Ryan, Kyle, and Amanda, as well as family in Norway. Betty had a deep love for her family and took pride in her home.
She was an exceptional cook, knitter, and seamstress, and for many years maintained a thriving vegetable garden. Together with her husband, she enjoyed numerous summer camping trips throughout Vancouver Island and BC, as well as many travels abroad, often to tropical destinations.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the West Coast General Hospital for all they did for mom.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service.
