He was born the last week of March in 1945 to Bill and Henny August. At the age of ten, they moved from their farm in Coombs to Port Alberni. Lloyd loved the valley, establishing roots with his family. He worked at the pulp mill until his retirement, clocking in over 30 years.
He enjoyed many adventures with his soulmate and true love Patti Windsor during their thirty two years together. They camped in tents, and later in their motorhome. Stamp Falls and Taylor Arm were some of their favorite spots. They also took annual trips to Mexico, staying for months at a time all while developing lifelong friendships. He loved to fish and spent many hours on the water with his dear friend Serge Ahira. Each afternoon, you’d find Lloyd on his front porch, waving and striking up a conversation with anyone going by - from neighbors and dog walkers to the parents picking up their kids from school – he called this his ‘happy hour’. Lloyd brought energy and sunlight into a room. He will be missed by many.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Patti; children, Chris of Vernon and Jennifer (Doug) Rathbone of Calgary; grandchildren Tye Kober, Mya (Jas) Parr and Halle August of Vernon along with Austin and Finn Rathbone of Calgary; siblings Brent (Rosalinde) August, Claudia (Tom) Barnes as well as great grandchildren, nephews and dear friends.
Special thanks to Lloyd’s medical team, especially the nurses who showed continued care and compassion at the West Coast General Hospital. At Lloyd’s request there will be no funeral or service. We invite you to celebrate his memory in your own way, knowing he will be with us in our hearts and in spirit. Should you desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.chapelofmemories.ca for the August family.
