February 14, 1958 – March 16, 2026
Patrick Jamie Brackett — Jamie to those who knew him — was born on Valentine’s day, 1958 at home in London, Ontario. He lived life on his own terms, and he left behind people who will carry pieces of him forever. He was one of a kind, and the world is quieter without him in it.
Jamie was a passionate and loyal sports fan who bled blue and white for his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He had a true gift for thrifting, and took real joy in showing up at family visits with bags full of name-brand finds for his nieces and nephews — chosen with care, given with love. He didn’t need much to be generous.
When his mother’s health declined in her final years, Jamie and his sister Karen moved to British Columbia — joining his sister Ayla, Steve, and their daughter Tianna. Giving her better air, better scenery and a better quality of life in her final chapter of life. For a time, the family was together in one of the most beautiful corners of the country. It was a quiet and profound act of devotion, the kind that speaks louder than words.
He’d call back to his family in southern Ontario and check in often. Just to ask how you were doing, just to hear your voice. And if you had an hour (or three) to spare, he just might tell you about the UFO he once saw — with enough wonder and certainty to make you smile long after the call ended.
Jamie knew hardship, and he carried much of it quietly. Through it all, he was fortunate to have a true and loyal friend in Steve Vertigan, who stood by him with patience and care through the ups and downs.
He is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Kathleen Brackett, and his beloved sister Patricia “Ayla” Brackett. He is survived by his brother Jeff Brackett(Janice Brackett); his sisters Kathleen Makowski (née Brackett)(Raymond Makowski) and Karen Brackett; his late sister Ayla’s partner Steve Vertigan and his nieces and nephews Azyia and Anthony Makowski, Tianna Vertigan, and Melissa and Stephen Brackett.
Jamie, you were one of a kind. The world was a little more interesting with you in it.
