Pete was always there for us, he was like family, I am very sad, now who will I visit and who will give me popsicles when we visit Grandma and Papa HaHa (Schellenbergs across the alley) said my seven year old daughter when she found out about Pete's passing. 
At first I thought, very sweet honey, then I thought very true. Pete was always there for us. Whether it was taking my daughter for a couple hours when we visited from Alberta so that my daughter could play with the children of my best friend Mike or entertaining the children with walks through his garden and visits to the park. Pete truly did love children and children took a special bond with Pete. When a child says something it usually comes out with no filter so you know its a truly genuine feeling.

Not only was Pete always there for the children, he was always there for me as I grew up across the alley from them, his house was always open for Mike and I to hang out in, his carport was always open for Mike and I to rebuild many of Mikes and my vehicles and his little shop was always open for Mike and I to build things like sub boxes and such for our trucks. 

Due the generosity and selfless acts I will always remember Pete and hold him close to my heart, as through those acts I was able to meet and bond with to this day a true friend, my best friend Mike and for that I thank you Pete.

 Take care till you meet us all again one day!!

Pete was a close friend of my late husband, Gunnard Radford, and me, Jan Radford, in our junior and senior years of school in Powell River.  He was a terrific person to know and a great friend to have.  My condolences to his family and friends.  Pete will be dearly missed.
I just browsed through your pictures posted and Gunnard is in the Air Cadet summer camp picture with Pete.  They had some fantastic times while in Air Cadets - and lots of mischief too.

My sincere condolences to all the family.  May the many joyous memories give you comfort in this time of sadness.

I just would like to thank all of you for coming.  For those who don't know me, my name is Amanda Player.  I am Pete's daughter-in-law and my husband is Mike.  I want to start off by saying thank you to Pete for molding Michael into the husband, father and man he is today.  Without your guidance, leadership and compassion Mike and our children would not have the drive and passion for life that they have.  For that I am truly thankful.

When I first met Pete I was very standoffish.  Pete came across strong and opinionated but what else could I expect from an Italian Engineer.  Myself being a stubborn, pig-headed individual; I braced myself for many years of battle against this man.  I loved his son and knew I was not going anywhere and was not going to back down against Pete's opinions.  Little did I know at our first meeting that many years later Pete would grow to be one of my strongest supporters.

If Pete thought you were Italian he would pull out his heritage book from his home town.  Upon meeting one of my Italian friends with the last name Rampone, Pete quickly went home and pulled out that book and his research began.  Internet research was his passion if you did not know that.  Days later Pete called me and sad that friend of yours Cynthia, her last name must be spelt wrong cause there is a similar name in my book.  Pete than told me that her family did not come from the village they claimed.  Pete was wrong….but I could not tell him that as he had morphed Rampone to another name altogether.

Pete was always willing to help out in any project using his engineering skills.  Let it be putting up crown molding, an easy weekend project, Pete would turn into a full-fledged project using AutoCAD with full blue prints.  Pete didn't care if it took a million times longer; he knew it was done right.  No one would argue with him, they just did it his way; his way was right, his way was the Pete way.

Pete was a man of many tools.  If there was a tool Pete would have it.  That's how Michael, Nick and Eric have all inherited Chop saws.  Who would have three of these?  Pete would…  20 hammers, a billion screw drivers, chop saws, ram rods, chain saws…Pete must have spent millions in hardware stores.  Tools were Pete's passion…well until he had grandchildren.

Pete loved his 4 grandbabies.  2 boys and 2 girls.  What more could a Nono ask for.  Pete attended births, baby showers and every birthday party possible.  Pete showered my children and Christine's children with love and most importantly knowledge.  Pete was determined to pass his knowledge on to these smart, caring and uniquely individual children.  Hopefully one of the four will follow in their Nono;s footsteps and become an engineer. Pete was always wanting to make each of the four feel special so he quickly put nicknames into p lace.  There was spoinaleta and spoinaleto for my children Kohl and Teagan.  Meaning naked boy and naked girl as my children ran around the house naked all the time.  When it came to the grandchildren Pete was always building Lego or playing dolls—whatever made the grandchildren happy.  Pete made countless battleships, tractors, wooden dolls beds..whatever the grandchildren wanted they got.  Pete had attended every hockey game, soccer game, ballet performance, gymnastics competition, figure skating show, singing performance and school concert that he could.  Pete showed up proud…he took pictures (usually while someone was taking a bite of food) and made these four children feel loved and very important.

Pete has a beautiful daughter Alicia…I have seen her grown from a teen girl to a lovely young lady.  Pete could not be more proud of here.  She is a kind, caring, compassionate aunt and daughter who will miss her day more than anyone will ever know.  Not only did Alicia and Pete share a great father/daughter bond they also shared Pete's trade mark thumbs.  I know Pete takes comfort in the fact that Alicia has found Eric. Someone that also loves and supports Alicia in everything that she does.

Pete loved his wife Tin with all his heart.  He showered her with love, affection, Italian food, his crazy engineeringness, and of course his thoughtful gifts.  Pete was Tina's rock.  Pete treated Tina like the Dutch princess she is…although I am sure he wished she was his Italian princess.  Pete taught Tina the Italian language, Italian cooking, took her to Italy and was slowly morphing Tina into an Italian goddess

Although Tina's children Mike and Christine were not biologically Pete's own he never let that show.  Pete was so proud of Mike and Christine for their accomplishments.  Pete bonded with Mike and spent many man hours with him as they both were surrounded by women and needed to escape.   And escape they did when needed.  Over the years, Mike and Pete spent many hours together working on the Qualicum property, Mike's house and even Tina and Pete's house.  I know Mike will miss the male bonding time, the helpful hand, the Pete isms and the constant love and support that Pete provided.

Speaking for the family we will miss Pete's gnocchi, home grown garlic, hugs, pasta sauce, handshakes from his stubby short Italian fingers (I will never forget those thumbs) the laughs, the never ending love and most importantly how Pete made each and every one of us feel so special.

This part is going to be hard for me to say.

I would like to take this time to thank Jim and Pat Schellenberg, the back neighbors, for their constant love, support and guidance over the years.  Jim you are a true friends; not only did you pick Pete up emotionally on the rough days; you literally picked him up on his last day.  You treated Pete with dignity and respects and I know taking him out of the hospital was one of the hardest things you have ever had to do.  To my parents John and Val McNabb and Richard and Gayle Player,  thank you for being there on Tuesday for Pete, Tina, Alicia, Dolphin and the rest of the family.  All of your love and support will be cherished for eternity.

With that being said, I ask every one of you to go home tonight, hug your children, spouses and grandchildren and then made them some killer spaghetti sauce in Pete's memory. (Preferably with home grown garlic).

Hi everybody and thanks for attending this lasting tribute in honour of Pete Pagani.  For those who don't know me and those who do and others who wish they didn't, my name is Ed Frausel, husband of Delfina, Pete's baby sister.

And thanks so much to those who braved the winter weather to attend from faraway places, much appreciated.

Why are we here?  We are here to show our love and support for Tina, Alicia, Mike & Christine, their spouses Eric, Amanda and Nick and Pete's beautiful grand-children which he adored and was very proud of, Kohl and Teagan, Jayden and Jenna, and his entire family.

Also I would like to mention two very special and caring friends from across the back lane, Pat and Jim Schellenberg.  Jim showing his never ending bonding and support for Pete, acting as our Usher here today.

Pete was born in Carpineto Romano, Itlay and immigrated to Canada and settled in Powell River at a young age along with the rest of his family for a better life, due to post WW2.  Pete graduated from Max Cameron High School in Powell River and then went on to study Mech. Eng. At the University of B.C., after graduating with his Prof. Engineer's Degree, making his parents and family very proud as he was the first child to attend university.

Pete provided his experience and knowledge at several work sites in Powell River, Vancouver, Nanaimo and lastly Port Alberni, retiring from the Mill.  Pete was a man of many projects after retiring, but always felt compelled to drop everything in order to help, advise, consult or design whatever for whoever, thus hardly ever completing his own projects.  If it was a sunny day, another excuse he would give Tina, was, let's take the grandchildren to Tofino for a ride or maybe the cottage at Qualicum.

Preparing food was also a great pass time of Pete's, his favourite Italian Biscotti, which he shared with his entire family, also when cooking at home or watching over sister Delfina's shoulder making sure she wasn't using Kraft Cheese Whizz, which was like using a swear word.  I often teased him about the days when he was smoking, which could be worse, cheese whiz or cigarettes.  Well one holiday, Delfina made a carrot cheese whiz casserole, and would you know it, Pete had started his second helping when we informed him as to what was in it; he abruptly halted eating any more.

With this I would like to close off, as others have some readings also.  

So Pete, until we meet again, with love and always to be fondly remembered!!!.  Please join me by shaking your neighbours had, as a sign of love and friendship for Pte.

Ironically that our classmate, Jay, in Nigeria told us about Peter's passing.  Pete & I were classmates at UBC and spent many hours studying together.  After graduation, he & I (& 2 friends) drove across Canada (really pub-crawled) in June 1970.  One of my most memorable trips.

Sad to hear of his passing.  I think about him a lot.

Tina, Alicia and family: No word can express our sorry for the premature loss of our cousin and friend Pete. We will never forget his bright smile and generosity - and our thoughts are with you in these difficult moments. Giorgio and Patricia.

We were very saddened to hear of Pete's passing. His quiet demeanor and friendly smile were always a welcome sight and he will be missed. Our sincerest condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear of Pete's passing.  He was always  such a wonderful man to work with and always had a pleasant smile.  I always enjoyed running into him after we all left the mill.  My thoughts are with you Tina and his family.  May your memories bring you comfort.
