Raymond Allen Charles Hickey

Ray passed away peacefully on Jan 1st, 2019 surrounded by family at the age of 77 in Port Alberni. Predeceased by his two sisters, Florence and Evelyn, he is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, his sister Joan Blake and his brothers, Austin, Jack (Margaret), George (Elsie) and Don (Claudette) and his children Sandra (Ernie) Guerrier, Steve (Lisa) Reader, Richard Hickey; as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ray was a quick witted practical joker who lived in the moment. He was devoted to his family and greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and hunting. He shared his love and respect of the outdoors with his children. He loved woodworking; leaving his family a legacy of wooden bowls and trays. His ease of making friends was his gift; he had amazing friendships due to his compassionate nature.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the doctors and nurses who provided Ray with exceptional care both at home and during his time at Ty Watson House.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Southside Church of the Nazarine, 4190 Victoria Drive, Port Alberni, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray’s memory can be made to Alberni Valley Hospice Society, 3038 3rd Avenue, Port Alberni, BC.
