November 17, 1959 ~ January 6, 2013.
Bob was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba and moved to Port Alberni with his parents in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Nicole, daughter Katlyn, mom and dad George & Elaine, sister Shelley and nephew Tim; Aunt Linda (Bob) Preston, Owen Preston, Jill (jason) Gren, Aunt Marg Diamond, Aunt Nelda Witt, David (Stephanie) Nelda; cousins Caron (Bob) Littlejohn, Donna (Rick) Martin, Jule (Frank) Hymers, Dallas (Ken) Burgess, Grant (Judy) Diamond, Leisa (Brian) Graham, Ron (Jackie) Mooney, Autumn Mooney, Heather Mooney, Sandra (Jim) Paul, Laurel Dunn, Bryan (Donita) Hampson and Kirk Hampson.
Bob was very active in Port Alberni. He loved his guitar and “jamming” with Rob Armich. They had great fun playing all around town. He belonged to the Portal Players, did some acting and also helped build the sets. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club and I am sure he entertained them with his stories.
Bob worked 30 years for Catalyst Paper in the steam plant. He had his 3rd Class Steam Engineer Ticket and his commercial gas ticket. The past few years he ran his own business R. Mooney Gas fitting and then he decided to go to Fort McMurray to work in the oil fields. He was hired by Nexen and was enjoying the different work there. He exclaimed over the huge size of the equipment as compared to the pulp mill. When winter came he had great fun with all the snow and the cold. He would call and say “it’s balmy out today mom – it’s only -18”. Living in Fort McMurray he often drove to Edmonton on his days off to visit with Katie.
Bob had many friends everywhere he went. He was always helping someone. He had many good times with his neighbours Norm and Susie Fudge, Eric and Sara and many special times with Mike Guard and Rob Armich. His cousins Laurel and Sandy say he was a “special” person who reached out to everyone and they loved their chats on Facebook. He was taken from us far too soon and we will all miss him very much.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 6th Avenue, Port Alberni, British Columbia. Condolences and messages may be left for the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca.
