Born in Meadowlake Saskatchewan to Ernest and Esther Penner, Rodger grew up on the family farm with ten siblings. He moved to Vancouver Island in 1973 and started his family and built his career at the paper mill in Port Alberni. After his retirement in 2017 he enjoyed more time to get back to nature capturing and enjoying all its beauty. Rodger was loved by everyone who knew him and was always recognized by the familiar sound of his laughter.
Rodger is predeceased by his parents Ernest and Esther, son Daryk, sisters Shirley and Betty and brothers Wes and Wally. Survived by wife Pam, daughter Alysha (Dean), stepson Dave, two beautiful grandchildren Alex and Naethan, sister Marianne, brothers Don, John (Shelly), Ken, Bill (Barb), Lyell, sister-in-law Edie and many nieces and nephews.
