Ronald Robert Simpson, known simply as “Ron” to his friends and affectionately as “Ronnie” to the Simpson clan, passed away on March 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and quiet strength.
Born and raised in Vegreville, Ron carried with him the values of community, hard work, and kindness throughout his life. His roots were an important part of who he was, shaping the steady and genuine person so many came to know and love.
Following his high school graduation, Ron joined the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served as a hull technician. He was posted to the Pacific Fleet in Esquimalt, where he met Sandra, beginning a partnership that would shape the rest of his life.
After his service, Ron transitioned his skills into civilian life, working as a millwright at the pulp mill. He took great pride in his work, bringing dedication, precision, and reliability to everything he did.
Ron was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he remained actively involved for many years. He served in a number of executive roles, contributing his time and leadership in support of fellow veterans and his community.
To his friends, Ron was dependable and easygoing—the kind of person you could always count on. To his family, he was a loving presence, tied to a lifetime of shared memories, laughter, and love.
He had a gift for making people feel comfortable, whether through a good story, a quiet conversation, or his reassuring presence. Ron appreciated the simple things in life and found his greatest joy in time spent with those closest to him. He was particularly close with his brothers and sisters, as well as his many cousins in the Simpson clan, relationships he valued deeply throughout his life.
Ron is lovingly remembered by his children: Geoff (Kristen), Greg (Laurie), and Danielle (Beau). He was a proud and devoted grandfather, blessed with nine grandchildren: Haiden, Dane, Joeli, Jordan, Linden, Dylan, Mylo, Edie, and Bode.
The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. DePape for 25 years of dedicated care and support.
Ron’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the kindness he showed and the connections he nurtured.
