Survived by loving wife Leanne; children Tyler and Rebecca; sisters Donna, Sandi and Bev; and nephews Brendan, Jared and Chris, his extended family in the fire department as well as many friends.
Born on the prairies, Ron spent some time in Victoria as a teen and quickly fell in love with the Island. He spent over 25 years in Calgary working as a firefighter, and was involved with numerous aspects of the job including water rescue, dive rescue and hazardous materials. He took an early retirement to move with his family to Qualicum Beach in 2002, a decision he never regretted. While living on the east coast of Vancouver Island, he served on the board of directors for the Dashwood Fire Department. In 2013 he and his family moved to the Alberni Valley and although Ron was retired, he never stopped working. In 2016 he joined the Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department and became both a member of their team and part of their family.
He had a passion for gardening, loved to build, and was so creative with all of his projects. His ability to work with his hands and create something out of nothing was counterbalanced by his complete confusion with electronic devices. He was working hard to master the art of the text message. A dedicated family man, he was immensely proud of his children, and loved watching them grow into the outstanding young adults that they have become.
He will be so dearly missed by family and friends, near and far.
Due to COVID there will be no public gathering taking place.
