It is with grieving hearts that we share the news of the passing of my dear husband, Roy. Roy passed away at Ty Watson House on Oct. 5, in the arms of his wife Gail and Barb Westra whom he affectionately called his daughter. Also our dear friend Dave Campbell was there to shoulder our broken hearts.
Roy was the son of the late Gilbert Arthur and Annie May (Corbin).
Surviving Roy is his wife Gail, sister-in-law Ilene, nieces and nephews from both the Bridge and the Campbell side of his family, as well as nephew Anthony in N.S.
Roy was predeceased by his wife Marilyn Dagmar, daughter Jane, son Rob, brother John, sister Jo Anne.
Roy enjoyed sport as a young man and participated in baseball, lacrosse, hockey, skiing, golf, hunting, fishing, dancing and gathering mushroom. His passion was spending time at his float house High Five and later his beautiful cabin on Ahmah Island, his happy place. When time stole his ability to participate in sports he would sit in his chair and watch every sport imaginable.
During his last few years Roy took up the hobby of making canes, and he proudly gifted them to many of his friends.
Roy was born in Olds, Alberta, the family moved to Penticton for a brief time and then to Trail, BC. Roy moved to port Alberni at the age of 18, found employment at the plywoods mechanical helper in installing paper machines and finally landed a job with M + B, where he worked for 40 years. Roy was a big guy with a huge heart. He cried watching sad movies, listening to sad songs, and we've seen him laugh until he cried. Roy loved animals, and was never happier than when Allie Babe or his Mel kitty was on his lap. Roy you will always be missed and loved by your wife and all your beautiful friends. Sleep in heavenly peace, Roy.
Thank you to the doctors, hospital staff and Ty Watson House who gave him exceptional care.
In memory of Roy, please make a donation to the Ty Watson House or a charity near to your heart.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
