

Sylvia was born July 30, 1938, in Chemainus BC. She spent her early life in Port Alberni.
In 1971 she moved to Invermere BC, where she worked in the restaurant and retail industry. Sylvia enjoyed her work, family and homelife in Invermere. She loved gardening, painting and most especially her family gatherings.
Sylvia was a passionate volunteer with the Hospital Women’s Auxilliary and was recognized as a champion in her fundraising efforts to obtain a CT Scan for the Windermere District Hospital. She was active in the community until 2003.
Sylvia moved back to Port Alberni in 2003 after the loss of her husband Roy Broadfoot. She came back to a large family including her 3 sisters.
Sylvia continued her volunteer work with the West Coast General Hospital Auxilliary where she and her sisters spent time at the Attic Thrift Shop and various fundraising activities. She was a member of the Sunshine club and spent time volunteering for the hot lunch program.
Sylvia enjoyed her time with her family. There were many family dinners, parties and gatherings over the years and her Christmas brunch will be missed by everyone. It was a time of connection and sharing.
She is survived by her sisters June Hetu, 90 and Lorna Mallon, 89
Her children: Les Sam, Julie Fontaine, Doug Sam (Bess) Marianne Hollingsworth (Mike) and Sean Conroy (Cary)
Grandchildren: Terry, Glen, Chevy, Wyatt, Shiloh, Erin, Jared, Darci, Rylie, Brandee, Shelbee, Harlee (Steven), Jaime Lee, Julie (Chuck), Chelsea and Ali
Great Grandchildren: Bailey, Hannah, Matthew, Logan, Carter, Olivia, Avery, Owen, Kirsten (Soren), Ethan (Destiny), Alex, Anthony, Nina, Bentlee, Greyson, Paytten, Mykkel and Levon
Great Great Grandchildren: Saige, Nova and Sloan.
Predeceased by: Father John Roland Nelson biological Mother Sarah Petrie Sisters: Elaine, Denise and Sharon, son Daniel a granddaughter, a great granddaughter Dakkota and her husband Roy Broadfoot.
A family celebration of her life was held February 23, 2025 according to her wishes.
