Walter Joseph Bauer
October 30, 1935 - August 8, 2025
Walter Joseph Bauer was born in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan on the family farm on October 30, 1935 and passed away on August 8th, 2025 at the age of 89.
Predeceased by his beloved daughter Cheryl, and siblings Marcel, Edward, Joseph, Theresa, and Ronald, Walter leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his sons Kelly (Michelle), Michael, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his siblings Beatrice, Raymond, Norman, Julia, and Jean.
Walter was one of eleven children born to Charles and Kathryn Bauer. He spent his early years working on the family farm, learning the values of hard work and dedication. In the 1950s, during a visit to see his sister in the valley, he called his father and said with a smile, “Sell all of my things and keep the money… I’m staying here.” That moment marked the start of a life filled with connection, community, and love for the place he called home.
Walter had a deep passion for fishing. On mornings when he wasn’t working, he would gather the neighbourhood kids in the back of a pickup truck and head out to Elsie Lake or Great Central, spending the day by the water. Music also brought him joy — he loved to play the harmonica, filling the air with melody. Later in life, he found happiness crafting Mars Water Bombers out of wood and enjoying walks with his loyal companion Brutus — his spirited dog with plenty of personality.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Van Zyl, the staff and residents of Abbeyfield, the home care aides, and the dedicated teams at WCGH and West Haven for their kindness, care, and support.
In keeping with Walter’s wishes, his life will be honored privately, without a public service or gathering.
