Predeceased by his parents Ernest and Esther Penner; Wes is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Edie; sons, Kyle (Jennifer) and Jason; grandchildren, Nyla and Kaleena; siblings, Don, Betty, John (Shelley), Ken (Debbie), Shirley, Mary (John), Bill (Barb), Roger (Pam), Wally (Madeline), and Lyle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Wes moved to the Alberni Valley in 1971 and was hired on with the Somass Mill where he worked until his retirement in 2009. He was grateful for the many close friendships developed with his coworkers over the years. Wes had a passion for playing ball, and he participated in many Provincial, and National tournaments and the World Senior's Games. He truly relished the camaraderie with his teammates. Wes loved salmon fishing and spent many mornings fishing on the waters of the Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound. A committed family man, he treasured the time with his family. He was proud of his boys and their achievements. He was always very supportive and involved in all their activities, and was a proud Grandfather in his later years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wesley's name can be made to a chairty of choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, March 16th, 2012 from the Chapel of Memories, 4005 – 6th Ave with Fred Massey officiating.
