Bill was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba, one of twelve children. He moved to the Alberni Valley with his family at the age of 16. He drove Ross Carrier at APD, and drove truck for a while, before working as a longshoreman. He worked his way up to the position of superintendent, a title he held until his retirement.
Bill loved the great outdoors; and fishing, hunting, and camping with friends and family. His greatest pride in hunting came in 2012, when he bagged a trophy Roosevelt Elk that measured 3112/8. He was a jack-of all trades, from woodworking, to engine repairs, fibre-glassing, landscaping, and construction. He loved a challenge, such as rebuilding his boat and camper. His talent shone through whatever he put his hands to. He also took great pride in the tomatoes and cucumbers that he grew.
Bill had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. If you were privileged to call Bill friend, you would have experienced his “Lacharity” sense of humor.
Bill is predeceased by his son Ricky; parents Adele and Hormidas (Pat); and siblings Philip, Victor, Gerry, Louis, Edward, Olive, Rita, and Leo. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret; his daughter Sandy (Bruce) and son Tim (Darlene); grandchildren Braden, Talea, Michael, Nya, and Randall; sisters Irene and Jean, and brother Alex.
Please join us for a celebration of Bill’s life at the Alberni Valley Curling Club (3250 9th Ave) on Saturday, Nov 26th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation, 2669 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 3G7, would be appreciated.
