Beverly L. Gray, a beacon of love and adventure, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, in Port Charlotte, FL. Born on July 9, 1940, in Portland, Maine, Beverly's incredible journey of 83 years was marked by boundless energy, kindness, and an indomitable spirit that left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Beverly is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Steven Gray, who was truly the love of her life. Their extraordinary partnership was one of mutual respect, profound affection, and shared wanderlust. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Steven M. (married to Koe Hwa) and Scott M. (married to Maria) Gray, who brought great joy and pride into her life. Her love extended to her cherished grandchildren: William (married to Cassie), Deborah (married to Nicholas Albina), Eric (married to Valerie), and Rachel (and boyfriend Luke) Gray. Each grandchild was gifted with her warmth and boundless energy, and Beverly reveled in their successes and happiness.
Siblings Loretta, Nancy, Karen, Donna, Kathy, and sister-in-law Priscilla, along with dear friend Jeanette, are among the many loved ones Beverly leaves behind. Beverly was predeceased by her brother Daniel but continued to hold him close in her heart. Dorothy Fontana was not just her best friend, but also her trusted business partner, with whom she shared many of life’s highs and successes.
A charismatic and shrewd businesswoman, Beverly owned a successful real estate business. Her leadership qualities shone brightly as she served as the President of the Sturbridge Rotary, where she managed trips with her sister Rotary in Stourbridge, England. She also served as a Selectman on the Holland Select Board, and as President of the Board of Directors for Port Charlotte Village, where her efforts were deeply appreciated, and her guidance was paramount to the community's well-being.
Beverly's interests were as varied as they were engaging. An avid reader, she embarked on beginning to write a book, sharing her vibrant storytelling with all who were eager to read. Beverly also wrote detailed trip reports from her extensive travels with Steven, which captivated many of her friends. Her journeys with Steven spanned the globe—including Korea, Europe, South America, and Alaska, and countless sailing trips in the Caribbean, as well as cruises, each one an adventure cherished and chronicled with loving detail. She posted a “Good Morning Port Charlotte Village” post every morning on Facebook that was followed by many friends and family across the country.
Those close to Beverly knew of her delight in spending time with her husband, sons, grandchildren, and grandpets—notably her four playful goats, two of whom were affectionately named Steven and Beverly. Her grandchildren always made her smile and brought so much joy into her life. Her home was a haven of hospitality and warmth, a testament to her generous and considerate nature.
Beverly's presence was a joy in any setting. A 100% people person, she had the rare ability to make every individual feel seen and important, which only contributed to the widespread love she received in return. It was this love, along with her kindness and an invigorating sense of adventure, that will forever define her to those who knew her.
Beverly L. Gray’s light, though now absent from this world, continues to shine in the memories and stories that she has left behind. Unquestionably, her legacy is one of love, vivacity, and an unwavering zest for life. Her loss leaves a void that will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community. Beverly L. Gray will be greatly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us all. Rest in peace, Beverly, knowing that your love will continue to echo through the lives of those who had the privilege to know you.
