

He was born on June 13, 1931 in Florence, Mississippi and came to Port Charlotte, Florida from Miami, Florida 17 years ago. Carroll worked as a machinist for the Miami Herald, retiring in 1993 after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Murdock Baptist Church and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Giovanna Byrd of 39 years of Port Charlotte, Florida, his 5 daughters, Debi F. Morrin of Clermont, Florida, Cynthia (Raymond) Dennis of Tampa, Florida, Janet (Bill) Denhoff of Tampa, Florida, Kim (Bruce) Cadrain of Port Charlotte, Florida and Denise (Don) Evans of Arizona; 2 sons, Douglas C. (Teresa) Byrd of Ocala, Florida and James (Carolyn) Arias of Beverly Hills, Florida; 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Carroll was preceded in death by his son Dorsey E. Byrd.
Visitation Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port charlotte, Florida.
Funeral services Monday, July 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Murdock Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Punta Gorda, Florida.
