

He was born on April 21, 1930 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Lloyd Roland Gates and Gesina Faythe Brueck. Dale came to North Port, Florida in 1999 from Michigan. He graduated from University of Missouri (BA) in 1951 and received his Masters degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1961. Dale taught Science and Math in the Oak Park Schools (Oak Park, Michigan) for 30 years before retiring and moving to Florida. He was a Mason since 1958 and a member of Berkley Lodge #536, Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan since 1967 and was Master of the lodge in 1978. He was a member of the Airstream RV Association WBCCI, Florida Suncoast Unit #129 for 8 years (served as the unit's Treasurer) and the Elks Lodge #2378 for about 10 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley M. Gates of North Port, Florida and is survived by his sister, Jean (Blaine) Coffey of Lee's Summit, Missouri, brother, Donald Frederick Gates of Steuben, Wisconsin, son, David (Cathy) Gates of Raleigh, North Carolina and daughter, Cynthia (Troy) Hunter of Green Cove Springs, Florida. He is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
