
Donald “Roger” Christensen, 77, of Punta Gorda, passed away on December 31, 2016 with his family by his side.
Roger was born August 4, 1939 in Geneva, NY to Eilart and Ellen Christensen. The oldest of five (5) siblings, Roger spent his childhood in Bellona, NY, developing his lifelong affinity for the Finger Lakes region, and specifically his beloved Kashong Glen and Seneca Lake. Upon graduating from the Penn Yan Academy in 1957, Roger began traveling between Punta Gorda, FL and upstate NY , until settling in Punta Gorda in the mid 1960’s. Roger spent much of his career in the Electrical Wholesaling industry, while also working for the Postal Service and owning a landscaping business. Roger enjoyed the outdoors, sports, road trips, spending time with his children and extended family, oldies and bluegrass music, dogs, and anything that involved having a good time.
Roger is survived by son Joshua Christensen and his wife Marian, of Fort Myers, daughter Sarah Thayer, her husband Greg Thayer, and grandchildren Hunter and Mason Thayer of Sarasota, FL, brothers Bruce Christensen of Franklin, TN, Mark Christensen of Cape Coral, FL, and Wilbur Christensen, of Port Charlotte, FL, sister Deborah Newsom and brother-in-law Burt Newsom of Port Charlotte, FL, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
There will b e a gathering of family and friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home 635 E. Marion Avenue. Punta Gorda, Florida with services to follow at 3:00 p.m.
