He was born on July 9, 1940 in Allen County, Indiana to Wayne Butler and Vada Woodward Butler. Gary came to Port Charlotte, Florida from Fort Wayne, Indiana 32 years ago. He was a police officer working for the town of Churubusco, Indiana, before retiring to Florida, he also worked as a Body Shop Manager for International Harvester.
Gary was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and past member of the Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife, Jean L. of 32 years of Port Charlotte, Florida; his daughter, Linda Butler of Richmond, Virginia; 3 stepchildren, Mary Jean Adkins of Columbia City, Indiana, Brian Mathews of Albion, Michigan and Lora Lee Fox of Pembroke Pines, Florida; 2 sisters, Pam Tilley of Louisville, Kentucky and Karen Foster of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 6 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Vada Butler and his brother, Duane Butler.
