

Gordon H. Ekiss Jr., 81, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away April 6, 2012 at Ridge lake Complex Care in Sarasota, FL. He was born June 24, 1930 in Chattanooga, TN to Gordon H. and Elizabeth (Heggie) Ekiss, Sr. Gordon graduated from Dell School of Medical Technology in 1955 and moved to Port Charlotte in 1959. He was employed by the Punta Gorda Hospital. In 1962, Gordon was instrumental in setting up the laboratory at Saint Joseph's Hospital. In 1965, he established the Clinic Lab, where he and his wife Yvonne owned and managed the lab till their retirement in 1999. Gordon was a member of the Deep Creek Elks and The American Legion Post 110. He enjoyed traveling and bowling.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 60 years Yvonne (Heiland) Ekiss; a sister, Margaret Bogardus; son, David W. Ekiss; daughters, Mary (Derrell) Browning and Barbara (Paul) Sullivan; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Karen (Steve) Goff.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950 with the Pastor Mark Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Breast Cancer Awareness organization of your choice, in memory of his daughter Karen Goff.
