

Janet Bernard was born to Elijah Dawes and Lorena Dawes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1954. She passed to her Heavenly Reward peacefully on May 4, 2019 in her home in Port Charlotte, Florida.
On April 12, 1991, Janet married her life-long partner, Derrick Bernard Sr., a self-employed Transportation Carrier and veteran of the United States Army.
Janet Bernard earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Florida Board of Nursing in 1999 worked 15 years with the same company. She was strongly devoted to providing premier health care service and primary hospice care to the elderly and always demonstrated a high level of excellence in her work.
Throughout her life Janet’s life of faith and her dedication to family never flagged or waned. In 1992, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church and has been a member until her passing. Janet was a devoted mother and an avid home maker. Her home-life and her active service in the medical field trumpeted the importance of love, tolerance, and forgiveness. She was a soldier for truth, justice and love and instilled in her children the desire to love God and his tender mercies until the end. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her children, her family, and all who knew her.
Janet is survived by her husband, three sons (Antwan, Floyd, and Derrick Jr.), three daughters (Tasha, Angelica, and Mariah), five grandsons (Menelik Jr., Marcus, Christian, Aden, and Phoenix), four granddaughters (Sayda, Ayonna, Gabrielle, and Serenade), a great grandson Kanan, and a great granddaughter Germani, her mother Lorena, seven brothers, and three sisters.
