
Joseph J. Dell'Orto of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on October 21, 2013. He was born on February 8, 1926 in New York City. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served most of his time on the USS Bennington aircraft carrier. In 1958 he moved to West Islip Long Island, NY, where he started his own trucking business, "J. Dell'Orto Trucking Company." He was a very active member in the Holy Name Society and was very dedicated to his catholic church "Our Lady of Lourdes". He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and coached a baseball and basketball team in which he was a sponsor for many years. In 1986 he moved to Port Charlotte, FL where he continued to be an active member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Elks and Moose Club.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Josephine G. Dell'Orto, his daughter, Doreen A. (Gene) Townsend, his two sons, US Army Retired Colonel Daniel J. (Lois) Dell'Orto and Patrick M. (Michele) Dell'Orto, 9 Grandchildren, 9 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great-grandson.
Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. The family will have full military honors for Joseph at a later date.
