

July 2, 2019 in Pt. Charlotte. He was born December 2,
1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Mistica (Bertacchi) and Fortunato
Scaruffi.
Leo was a corporal in the U.S. Army and served in Hof, Germany
(Bavaria), as part of the US Constabulary/Occupation Forces.

Leo graduated, on the GI bill, from Michigan State University
(College) with a degree in Forestry/Light Construction and Lumber
Mechandising and returned to Chicago.
Leo met his wife, Sylvia M. (nee LoPresto) in the Chicago area
when they were youngsters and Sylvia visited her aunt and uncle
with her family from Massachusetts. Leo’s parents were friends
of her aunt and uncle. Later, when Sylvia was in the Navy Boot
Camp, stationed at Great Lakes, she visited her relatives in
Downers Grove and reconnected with Leo. She also returned to
Chicago when she was working for IBM in New York City. She
left her job at the IBM World Headquarters to move to Chicago
and marry Leo.
Leo worked for the Morgan Lumber Company and then for
the Hettler Lumber Company. He retired after 30 years at
Hettler as a Vice President and the Manager of the Millwork
Department. They lived in the suburbs of Chicago, where
Cindy was born. Leo and Sylvia discovered Punta Gorda Isles
in 1970 and had been coming down to Florida every year until
they moved to PGI in 1984. Leo worked in Real Estate
for different companies in the area. He was honored as a
member of the Million Dollar Club.
After Hurricane Charley, Leo and Sylvia moved to Glen Alpine,
North Carolina. They returned to Florida in 2015 and settled in
at South Port Square Assisted Living Community.
Leo enjoyed the many activities offered at South Port,
especially the Trivia Games and Horse Racing, which he
frequently won.
Leo is survived by his beloved family, his wife Sylvia, his daughter
Cindy (Alan R.) Klispie of Deep Creek, and several nieces and
nephews, as well as many great nieces and great nephews.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to
