

Mary Henderson Gammon Franklin, 95, of Port Charlotte Florida formally of Great Falls, Virginia passed away on Friday December 3rd 2016 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was born on November 18th 1921 in Rome Georgia to Richard Gammon and Annie Tuck Gammon.
Mary grew up in Cedartown, Georgia. She graduated from the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton Georgia in 1939 where she received her degree in Education & Journalism.
Mary married Ben B. Franklin in 1940 in Manassas Virginia. They were happily married for 66 years. Mary was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Cameron Parish Chapter and loved her many active years volunteering as a Girl Scouts leader with her daughters. She spent many years with Ben raising thoroughbred horses at their farm in Great Falls, Virginia. Mary had a great love her family, many friends and all animals she had a great way with gardening. Mary spent many years volunteering making stuffed bears for children in local area hospitals.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ben B. Franklin, parents Richard and Annie Gammon. Richard, Sarah, Lamar, Charles, Wayne and Anne Gammon her Siblings.
Mary was the loving mother of Annette Franklin Rose of California, Brenda Franklin Scogno of Florida and Valerie Franklin Camerlengo of Florida; son in laws Chris Hardman, Anthony Scogno and Dominic Camerlengo; proud grandmother of Alexander Rose, Gammon Castellvi Cross, Audra Castellvi, Trent Hardman, Heather Camerlengo Cline, Ryan Camerlengo and Nicholas Camerlengo; great-grandmother of Victoria Nuckols, Courtney Galtarossa, Aimee Lunos, Decima Rose, Anthony Cline, and Veronica Cross and many nieces and nephews.
Friday December 8th 2016 at 1 pm in Northern Virginia the family will be greeting friends and relatives with a viewing and a memorial service to follow at Pierce Funeral Home 9609 Center St. Manassas, VA 20110. Burial will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens 12004 Lee Hwy, Manassas, VA 20109
A memorial service was held in Port Charlotte Florida at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home on Tuesday December 6th 2016.
