in the ICU ward at Peace River Regional Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL.
She was born on February 18, 1929 as the daughter of Carleton Parker
Jones and Ruth Alden (Adams) Jones of Amherst, MA. She was the sister
of Carleton Parker Jones II and Robert Edward Jones, both deceased, and
the husband of the Rev. George Gordon Brooks. She leaves two nephews,
Carleton Parker Jones, III and Edmund Adams Jones and a niece, Catherine
Leete Jones Randall, two grand nieces and a grand nephew, two great grand
nephews, three great grand nieces and one on the way.
Early in her life she was secretary to the Amherst Town Manager, Allen Torrey,
then secretary to the Admissions Officer at Deerfield Academy, John Boyden,
and finally, before marriage, to the Communications Officer at the Mass
Council of Churches in Boston, MA, William Whitehouse. Later she became a
teacher's Assistant in the Elyria, OH school system, but the work she loved the most
was as the owner of the Wool and Needle Studio in Burlington, IA and teacher of
primary, intermediate and Advanced Knitting for the Night School at Burlington High
School. Her most significant "work" during her husband's Ministerial career was
as his eyes and ears on the congregation. She did most of the counseling while he did
the preaching. She was the perfect Ministers wife! She was a member of the Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of Charlotte County, the Rounders at Maple Leaf Golf and
Country Club and the Peace River Harvard Club. A Memorial service will be held at
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Tuesday February 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. 1532
Forrest Nelson Blvd. Port Charlotte, Florida, with lite refreshments after the service.
Rev. Amy Kindred will be officiating.
