
Robert Tellis Jarrett passed away on 19 March 2016 at age 91. Born 1 June 1924 in Hickory, NC. He entered the Marine Corps in 1941 and served in the Pacific Theater, most notably during the invasion of Guadalcanal where he was the sole survivor of his unit. After the war he settled in Indianapolis, IN where he was active in the Loyal Order of Moose becoming the Govenor of his lodge and state president. He also was active in Marion Lodge 34, of A.F.& A.M. where he was a past master. He also was involved in the Scottish Rite. Robert and his wife Patricia moved to Englewood FL where they became active in the American Legion Post 113 in Rotonda West where he is a past commander. Robert is survived by his daughter Sandra and her husband Tony of Plant City, Fl., son David and his wife Cynthia of Newport News, VA. , grandson David II and two great grandchildren Catherine and David III, of Newport News, granddaughter Danielle and her husband Shaun and two great grandchildren Paisley and Lucas of Newport News. He also is survived by his sister Doris Whisnant and brother Benjamin both of Hickory, NC.
Visitation will be Thursday 23 March 2016 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood, FL, with Military Honors by the American Legion Honor Guard, graveside at Gulf Pines Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Legion Riders Legacy Scholarship Fund.
