
Dr. Robert H. Shedd, 82, of Punta Gorda, FL died October 23, 2007. He was born
December 29, 1924 in Ft Worth, TX , and spent his formative years in Lockport, NY. He completed his pre-med studies at Princeton University, and received his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1948. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952, serving as a surgeon with the Marine Surgical Unit during the Korean War. In 1953, Dr Shedd moved to Punta Gorda, and at that time, became the third doctor in the area. During those days, he made house calls to families and has delivered over a 1, 000 babies. He served the community faithfully for so many years. For ten years 1972-1982 he served on the Charlotte County Commission, was Mayor of Punta Gorda for two terms and was an active member of the city council. For four years he was Chief of Staff at the Charlotte Regional Medical Center and was the founder of the Charlotte County Medical Society. He was the Medical Director for the Life Care Center of Punta Gorda, the Port Charlotte Care Center, St Joseph Nursing Care Center and the staff physician for South Port Nursing Center. Dr Shedd was instrumental in the development of the county's Head Start program and the Cooper Street Recreation Center. The Rotarians proudly elected him Man of the Year in 1994.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gerry Shedd of Punta Gorda, FL; son,
Randy Shedd of Punta Gorda, FL; daughters, Malry and her husband Lou
Brancaccio of Vancover, WA and Wendy Shedd of Naples, FL; granddaughter Danni
Brancassio, and many wonderful friends.
A Gathering for friends and family will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Sunday
October 28, 2007 at the Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda,
FL 33950. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the Cooper Street Recreation Center 650 Mary Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
